Our Rehearsals

Our rehearsals are more than just practicing, they include group and individual tuition in a mentoring style run by Anthea, the orchestra conductor. We often spend some of the practice sessions, sight reading new pieces that members bring to the orchestra so we gain confidence and increase our playing repertoire list. In addition we sometimes play the scales of music pieces we are about to practice so that we keep any intonation issues to a minimum. Our music is not only a classical repertoire list but we sometimes play quite modern pieces as well. Our concerts also give everyone the experience of playing to an audience.

Extra Practice Sessions

Practice sessions are held every Wednesday evening, 7.00 to 9.00pm in Our Lady of Dolours Church, Primary School Music Room, (next to the lane and opposite the church rectory) 74A Archer St Chatswood. There are sometimes extra practice sessions in the weeks preceding concerts. In addition, smaller groups, such as string trios and string quartets, often get together and practice informally in an orchestra member’s home.

Our practice sessions are held every alternate Sunday at 12.30 to 2.30pm, in Regis Hall at the end of Regis Drive: Regis Campus (St Ignatius Junior School), entrance near Gate 3 off Riverview St, Lane Cove. We often keep the repertoire list the same as the Wednesday practice so that if you a Wednesday session you can make up for it on Sunday practice.

There is plenty of free off-street parking in the school grounds (next to Regis Hall). Also it’s advisable bring a bite to eat for lunch as there are few open shops in the area on Sunday afternoon.
