Our Innominato-Strings small ensemble group was invited to perform at the Spring Market at Gordon Baptist Church on 18 October 2014. All group members were excited about this performance as we rarely had an opportunity to perform on such a special occasion before. The day was full of fun and enjoyment for us. Not only did we have fun playing music in such relaxed atmosphere, we also shared the pleasure of the activities organised by the Gordon Baptist Church that day. There were stalls with delicious jams, cakes, Christmas puddings, ethical coffee, Asian food, BBQ, fresh fruit and vegetables. There were also other attractions, such as hand-made jewellery, books, fair trade goods, creepy crawly creatures, etc. I especially loved the ethical coffee as well as the handmade jewellery.
Meaningful and Gratifying Experience
During our performance, we performed a popular Chinese song. To me, music is a powerful tool which keeps humanity together in harmony and peace. By looking at the audience response, I could feel that the sound of any music is actually a mutual language. Our group is composed of members from a multitude of cultures. We are all at different levels with different experience, but then we come together to create something fantastic and with such delight and enjoyment. I especially love this experience I have had with the Innominato Strings because it has helped me grow as a musician and has made me realise the possibilities in the musical spirit of group participation and community. It was such a meaningful and gratifying experience to me as we also helped to raise money for the Vulnerable Children Fund on that day. The experience of community participation and serving the greater community was really a wonderful addition to my life!!
Valuable Community Service
With Christmas approaching, we are going to have a Christmas carols performance in a nursing home so as to share the festive spirit with the wider community. There are always opportunities for members who would like to offer their time and talents in these outreach performances and to engage in valuable community service. I am sure we will make a difference in the lives of those elderly people while at the same time, doing what we love. Maybe our small ensemble group would be able to add some brightness and interest for the residents as well as the staff during these visits.
